2023 Jeep Wrangler Engine and Drivetrain Options

Jeep offers an engine option for any driver shopping for a Wrangler. Under the hood, you’ll find a 3.6L V6 engine as standard equipment, this delivers an ample 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The first available option is a turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine that pumps out 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Introduced late in the 2021 model year, the 4xe system brought plug-in hybrid electric power to the Wrangler lineup. The 4xe PHEV system is available for the Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude trims and combines the turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine with two electric motors powered by a rechargeable battery pack. In addition to the gas equivalent of 49 MPG, the Wrangler 4xe lineup gets 375 horsepower and an incredible 470 lb-ft of instantaneous torque. Last but certainly not least is the exclusive 6.4L HEMI V8 engine found exclusively in the Rubicon 392 trim. This engine is 392-cubic inches of excitement, offering 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque to match. Standard equipment for the Wrangler is a 6-speed manual transmission driving all four wheels with Command-Trac 4×4. However, an 8-speed automatic transmission and two other 4×4 systems are available. The automatic transmission, however, comes standard with the 4xe and Rubicon 392 models.

What 4×4 Systems Does the 2023 Wrangler Use?

The off-road capability has been echoed around the world thanks to its unrivaled 4×4 systems. As was previously mentioned, standard equipment for the Wrangler lineup is Command-Trac 4×4. Command-Trac is a part-time 4×4 system that uses driver input to manually shift between two-wheel drive, four-high, and four-low drive modes. Drivers select these modes using a shift knob found on the center console. Meanwhile, Selec-Trac 4×4 is available for the Wrangler. Where Command-Trac uses driver input, Selec-Trac relies on a network of sensors to detect changes in road conditions or a loss of traction and automatically alters the torque distribution to counteract the slip and maintain traction. Exclusive to the Rubicon trim levels is Rock-Trac 4×4. This is similar to Command-Trac, as it is a part-time system that relies on driver input. However, the Rock-Trac transfer case has a lower gear ratio, optimized for superior low-speed crawling control on rugged terrain.

Standard and Available Features for the 2023 Wrangler

The Wrangler’s iconic design has been slightly modified over the years to keep up with the times while staying true to the original overall design. The Wrangler’s heritage is captured by the upright seven-slot grille, trapezoidal fender flares, rugged black bumpers, and circular headlights. Additionally, Jeep has never taken the open-air freedom away from the Wrangler, with its fold-down windshield, removable top, and removable doors. Other standard exterior features include underbody skid plates, 17-inch steel wheels, front and rear tow hooks, Dana 44 solid axles, front and rear tow hooks, black mirrors, and a zipperless soft top. Inside the 2023 Jeep Wrangler, you’ll find push-button ignition, drain valves to easily wash the Wrangler out after a day on the trails, a 7-inch Uconnect 4 infotainment touchscreen, cloth upholstery, six speakers, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration. Stepping up to a higher trim level gets you driver assistance technologies, navigation, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, alloy wheels, and body-color door handles, mirrors, fender flares, and hard tops.
