And, of course, it still bears the name Wrangler, so it features the legendary open-air freedom you can’t get anywhere else! HYBRID TECHNOLOGY

HYBRID MODE

The default mode, Hybrid, combines torque from both the 2.0L turbocharged engine and the electric motors. This combination provides maximum horsepower, instant torque and the best acceleration. Electric power is consumed first.

ESAVE MODE

eSave Mode prioritizes the 2.0L engine. This saves the battery charge for later use. When power demand is low, the engine shuts off. It can also be reconfigured to increase the battery charge as well.

CAPABILITY

A 4X4 FIRST AND FOREMOST

The Wrangler 4xe system is paired with a 2.0L I4 DOHC direct-injection Turbo PHEV engine to bring out the best in already proven Jeep® Brand 4×4 capability. A 16-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, regenerative brake booster and eight-speed automatic transmission work together to send impressive amounts of power and torque to each wheel, maximizing the capability of every component. The sealed and waterproof battery pack and electronics even perform in tough conditions like fording creeks and streams up to 30 inches in depth. Preproduction model shown.

POWER THROUGH

Climb over tough obstacles and go an electrifying 0-60 mph in 6 seconds. A plug-in hybrid turbocharged engine gives the Wrangler 4xe an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of instant torque for heart-pounding performance off-road and on-road.

RANGE

SAY GOODBYE TO RANGE ANXIETY

Whether you want to take off-road adventure to new places or simply get around town on all-electric power, the Wrangler 4xe is ready with an EPA estimated 49 MPGe rating. E-Selec driving modes that utilize Power Routing enable you to optimize performance while eliminating range anxiety.

SEIZE THE DRIVE

E-Selec driving modes put you in control. Electric Mode uses only battery power for low-emissions zones in cities or quiet off-roading with maximum torque and horsepower, while eSave Mode reserves battery power for later. Hybrid Mode gives you the best of both worlds. Preproduction model shown.

What Can You Tell Me About the Capability of the 4xe?

As we said before, just because it’s a plug-in hybrid doesn’t mean the Wrangler 4xe loses its off-road chops. As a matter of fact, it improved them! With 470 lb-ft of torque available instantly, off-roaders will find more control and precise wheel movement when maneuvering through rugged terrain. On pavement, with instant torque, you’ll find you have no problem merging on the highway. Of course, the Wrangler 4xe still comes with the celebrated 4×4 systems that Jeep has spent 80 years perfecting. All 4xe trims come with 4×4, a Selec-Trac two-speed transfer case with a low-range gear ratio of 2.72:1, and Dana 44 heavy-duty front and rear solid axles. The Wrangler Rubicon has had unbeatable off-road capability for many years, so it’s only right that the Rubicon 4xe carries the torch. The Rubicon 4xe will come with Tru-Lok locking front and rear differentials, a Rock-Trac two-speed transfer case with a 4:1 low-range gear ratio, high-clearance fender flares, and 33-inch all-terrain tires. Thanks to sealed electrical connections, a high placed air intake, and the battery pack being under the rear seat, the 4xe has up to 30 inches of water fording capability! Talk about go anywhere, do anything!

What Powers the 2021 Wrangler 4xe?

The power of the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe begins with a 2.0L turbocharged Inline-4 cylinder engine which is paired with two electric generators. One electric motor is placed on the cylinder head, and the other is in front of the transmission, replacing the torque converter. The 4xe’s 400-volt battery pack is housed under the rear seats, keeping it protected from the elements. This setup gives the Wrangler 4xe 375 horsepower, 470 lb-ft of torque, 50 gas-equivalent miles per gallon, and up to 379 miles of hybrid driving. Most of the 4xe’s charging happens with a traditional TurboDX Electric Vehicle charger, but the 4xe also utilizes regenerative braking to charge the battery when the car is slowing down by either depressing the brake pedal or releasing the gas pedal. Regenerative braking also helps slow the vehicle down, relieving some pressure from the brake pads, extending their life. To get the most out of the electric vehicle, Jeep gave the 4xe E-Selec Modes. Hybrid mode is on by default which uses the electric power first and the gas engine when the driver requests more power by pressing the gas pedal. Electric mode allows the driver to enjoy almost silent driving as well as 21 miles of zero-emissions travel. Electric mode will turn off when the minimum charge is reached. The last available drive mode is E-Save. This engages the gas motor to save the electric power for later. Jeep recommends using E-save on your way to the trails and Electric when on the trails so you can enjoy the sounds of nature!

Standard Features of the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe

Jeep’s first endeavor into the world of electric vehicles certainly marks the beginning of a new chapter. But although the page is turning, the Wrangler 4xe is still a Wrangler! It still has the removable top with a sunroof, removable doors, and a fold-down windshield that Jeep does best! The Wrangler 4xe comes with some of the best features like all the off-roading equipment previously mentioned, an 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, leather-trimmed upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 9-speaker Alpine premium audio system. And those are just the standard features! When you think it can’t get any better, the Wrangler 4xe comes in three trims, Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude, each bringing some of their own amazing features, becoming better than the last! The Rubicon 4xe focuses on off-road prowess with an electronic disconnecting sway bar and electronic limited-slip rear differential. Meanwhile, the High Altitude has all the off-road capability you could ever need while leveling up on comfort and style with leather seating, body-colored exterior accents, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
